Okay, I somehow missed this fun thing that BooMama hosted on Friday.
But I decided to go ahead and do it a couple of days late...it was so much fun seeing where everyone in the virtual community lives.
Welcome to my little cottage.
When people are coming to my home who have never been here before, I always tell them to look for the house with the orange door! When we painted our house several years ago I think my family thought I was a little crazy when I picked the door color, but once it was finished they liked it. I love my orange door and although the house color changes, I still have tried to pick a color that will let me keep my door orange!
This little bench seat is on my front porch. I've had wicker things in the past, first a chair, then a bench, but the wicker didn't hold up very well in the humid weather.
When you step into my home you're right in the living room. This little 1100 square foot Florida home built in the early 50's was built more for practicality... than beauty, but I have learned over the years that it is the hearts of those who live in the home that adds any true beauty found there.
I used to fret about my home being imperfect until I was reading an article about hospitality one day, and the author, Nancy Leigh Demoss, said something like this, "Worry over your less-than-perfect home means that your are a materialistic person"! Whoa...you mean I could live modestly and still be materialistic? Yes, because my focus was on material things! Interesting and enlightening!
This is my dining space, which it is adjoined to both my
living room and kitchen...wich I like because of the openess. It has hosted many a wonderful mealtime...not necessarily because of the food, but because of the conversation and fellowship. My table is a hand-me-down that was in a lake cabin that my grandparents owned. [In fact a lot of my furniture was given to me, either old or new.] It has been a place where we have eaten, done school work, painted, had tea parties, rolled out cookie and pie dough, played Balderdash, Nertz, Scattergories, Monopoly, SkipBo and many another fun games. I have made wedding invitations and cards, sewn quilts and dresses and all kinds of crafts on this wonderful table and never really worried too much about using it....because living is not always a neat and tidy proccess.
Here is the kitchen. There was a wall between it and the dining room when we first moved into this home. But as my children grew I wanted to open the kitchen so we could enjoy visiting while they used the dining room table . This has been very convenient during our homeschool years.

A corner of my bedroom where I like to read, do my quiet time, and journal...
The amoire your see is in the space where my closet used to be. A couple of years ago my husband added a walk-in in closet and master bathroom. We purchased an amoire at Homegoods that fit perfectly, and with a few minor adjustments, were able to recess it into the old closet space. It is filled with books, books, books, photo albums, rubber stamping stuff, and other craft items.
And last, but not least, is where I spend time connecting with all of you!
